Waste

If you like saving money or perhaps have a compassionate heart and would like to give unwanted items a chance at another life, then get involved in our waste projects! Our throw-away lifestyle contributes to climate change and is not sustainable. We live on a planet with finite natural resources- so it just makes sense to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we can! We’re here to make it easier (and fun!) for you to reduce your waste, creatively reuse and revamp old stuff and recycle anything that’s left over.

It’s natural to be a bit of a shopaholic at the start of term- you probably need new cutlery, crockery, a kettle or a lamp to make your flat liveable. Why not save some cash and a trek down to Union Street and try out being a SwapAholic instead? Our new student swap shopis the perfect place to adopt all the essentials for your new abode (FOR FREE) and give away your perfectly usable but unwanted electrical equipment, books, clothing and more! Instead of spending £5 on a toaster, you can get one for free and save that cash for the pub. You can even arrange to exchange with other Aberdeen uni students from the comfort of your own room with our freecycle-style SwapAholics Facebookpage! And you’ll most likely accumulate heaps of stuff during your time in halls, some of which you won’t be able to cram into your suitcase or the boot of mum’s car when you head home. Instead of flinging it in the tip, give the next generation of freshers a head start by participating in our Big Spring Clean!

Everyone knows by now that it’s important to recycle. But when the facilities are a mile away and recycling symbols look like a foreign language to you, sometimes it’s just easier to bin it. We’re here to rectify that situation and save you from that carbon guilt. We’ve done the research for you and have created a guideto help you find the nearest charity shop for all that old clothing and the closest recycling bin for your surplus of glass bottles, as well as where to recycle the trickier things- mobile phones, batteries, laptops and more.

Don’t condemn your stuff to a long, smelly death in a landfill. Get involved with the Climate Change Project and help save yourself and other students money and help make Aberdeen uni a waste-free place!
