Student Development
There's more to university than just leaving with a degree.
The employment market is extremely competitive so that's why we aim to bridge the gap between practical experience and skills, and those taught in the classroom.
Volunteering
Volunteering isn't just good for the soul. It can also put you on track to improve your career and your bank balance.
While you're studying, volunteering is a great way to
* develop new skills
* build your confidence
* and show future employers you've got drive and initiative
These days employers look for more than just qualifications. They're interested in your personal qualities and transferable skills such as time management and communication. Your don't have to have learned those things in paid work - the skills and experience you develop outside work are just as useful. Application forms will ask you to talk about why you're right for the job based on paid and unpaid employment, so that's the perfect opportunity to make volunteering work for you.
Volunteering can give you a foot in the door you might not otherwise get - the chance to show an employer what you can do, and why they should pay you to do it!
Charities
Some say 'join the Sky Diving Club',
some say 'entertain the public street crowds' and join the Street Entertainers society,
some say 'become a lovie, dahling' with the Treading The Boards society.
We say 'join the Charities Campaign' and do all of these and much, much more!
Debater
All debates take place on Thursday evenings at 7.30pm in our purpose built chamber at Marischal College.
The topic for debate can be anything: debating is simply an exciting and spontaneous way or arguing.
Our first terms calendar shows exactly how varied our topics actually are ranging from our Freshers Debate on American interventionism to cannibalism, assisted suicide and the power of the press. The weekly debates are the backbone of what Debater does, but it is by no means all that we do!
AIESEC
