The Duke of Edinburgh's Award - Volunteers Needed in Aberdeenshire

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Volunteers Needed in Aberdeenshire

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme is one of the most popular and successful developmental programmes for young people, aged between 14-25 years and has been for over 50 years. This motivational programme is full of exciting activities, which helps young people to learn new skills, creates new opportunities to work and socialise with others of the same age, plus, experiencing adventure, allowing the young person to gain a great sense of achievement.

There are already a number of Open Award groups within the area and have been running very successful programmes, these Groups are supported by extremely dedicated and competent adult Volunteers.
The Volunteers provide training and support to the participants at all levels of the Award, Bronze, Silver and Gold, ensuring that this high level of success is maintained.

Over the last few years the numbers of Young people signing up for the Award within the Aberdeenshire area has continued to increase, so to help facilitate the programme further, we wish to appeal to students, Lecturers and Tutors from the University of Aberdeen who may live within the Shire and would like to get involved as a Volunteer.

You are invited to get involved with the Award and if you can offer support, in the form of Administration, Fund raising, storage facilities for equipment or can simply share your own knowledge and experiences on an appropriate subject, this does not necessarily need too be on the Expedition side, though, groups are always looking for those individuals who enjoy the outdoors and may have qualifications or experience in this field.
These Groups will also be looking for people to assist as Mentors, helping develop skills and knowledge of the young people.

If interested, please contact Dave Thomson, Development Officer, Aberdeenshire – South, based in the Banchory Community learning Centre, Schoolhill, Banchory, AB31 5TQ. Tel - 01330 825966.
Outlining your skills and abilities, including, level of commitment you wish to offer.
