Freshers' Week

Will Freshers’ week still be happening?

AUSA is working hard to make Freshers 2020 the best one yet. AUSA will be in touch over the summer months with more information for student activities on how to register your ‘Give it a go’ sessions, trials, fayre booths and all your events. We will start releasing information very soon on the events, partners and volunteering opportunities.

What are the events?

As always, we are planning a range of fun and inclusive events for all students in and around campus. Keep an eye out on our Facebook page and website for event drops!

What’s going to be different about this year?

This year we are eager to support even more local businesses who may have been affected by COVID-19. We are also working to increase our reach to the Foresterhill, Qatar campus, and students who cannot physically attend through more online activities. Please keep an eye out for more information on our social media pages and our website.

Accommodation

When will I be able to move into halls?

For the most up to date information on accommodation, please refer to the University of Aberdeen’s accommodation web pages or AUSA Advice’s accommodation advice pages.

Sports

If the semester has changed, how will this affect our fixtures and trials?

o We are working closely with BUCS and SSS to give you more information soon. We will also contact sports clubs directly with more information about give it a go’s and trials closer to the September start date. We will then work with each club to ensure your events line up with the BUCS, SSS and local leagues schedules.

How do I ensure my pitch/hall/court bookings are right for the new term?

AUSA Sport will be in touch soon. Because ASV is currently closed and working on a reduced team, this is something we will look to address in the coming weeks.

When will memberships go live for the new year?

o Memberships will go live at the beginning of July as usual. It makes sense to get committees registered as soon as possible by purchasing their memberships straight away. That way we will be able to give access to your presidents to start editing and maintaining your page on the website. We have already sent an email out asking for your memberships and prices, but you can access the form here.

 

Societies

When will memberships go live for the new year?

Memberships will go live at the beginning of July as usual. It makes sense to get committees registered as soon as possible by purchasing their memberships straight away. This is so we can give access to your presidents to start editing and maintaining your area of the website. We have already sent an email out asking for your memberships and prices, but you can find it here if you haven’t received it.

Will there still be a Freshers’ fayre and if so, when do I sign my society up?

More information will be available about the Fayres soon. This year, we will be facing additional challenges which we are currently considering. We will be in touch with your committees in July.

How do I let AUSA know about my society’s events that we are doing online over the summer or getting ready for freshers’?

Please get in touch with Karolina about any online events you are planning or if you are doing them via Facebook – send a co-host request to the AUSA page so we can help advertise them. We will be in touch about your freshers’ events soon.

We have yet to have our AGM, how best are we to do this?

AUSA has sent an email out to committees with our recommendations. If you have any questions or need any advice please get in touch with societies@abdn.ac.uk

We have elected a new committee, how do we notify AUSA?

Please fill out the Google Form that you would use to submit your new committees. Don’t worry if you do not have all the information at the moment, please fill out what you can. Final re-affiliation information is not due until the end of May.

How do I reaffiliate my activity?

There will be more information available soon. Please keep an eyeon your emails and the AUSA Societies Union Facebook and Instagram pages.

Who do we contact for help?

Please email societies@abdn.ac.uk for help with any questions that you might have at this time.

We can’t access our space, how do we get things that we need?

At this point in time, the university campus is not accessible. Unfortunately, there isn’t anything we can do, however, please get in touch with the societies email listed above if there is anything else we can help with.

When is our reaffiliation due?

Groups do not need to submit their paperwork to AUSA until September. We will be in touch soon with formats and deadlines.

Representation

I’m a class rep, a course rep, a year rep, or a school convenor. How can I keep helping during COVID-19?

Thank you for the work you have done as a rep this year. The cumulative effect of the work of this year’s reps has ensured that the voice of students has been heard. During the current health emergency, the need for effective student representation remains high. There are a number of things you can do to help. Visit this page and if you have any further questions or would just like to bounce some ideas, please email ausareps@abdn.ac.uk

I’m a class rep, a course rep, a year rep, or a school convenor. I’ve got so much on my plate, I’m not sure I can keep up with my voluntary duties.

That is absolutely fine, and many of us will feel overwhelmed by the current situation, please don’t be too hard on yourself. You may find a summary found here (the webpage) useful. It is good to be honest with what you can manage, and to ask for support when needed. Please contact ausareps@abdn.ac.uk if you need any support with representation matters and if things get too overwhelming, please reach out to the University’s counselling service. (Plus insert anything else we are offering to those struggling?)

Is it possible that the date will be further delayed?

AUSA will continue to take the lead from the University and support students the best we can should there be any further changes.

Will I be graduating later?

How will it impact my studies?

The university will continue to advise students on information surrounding this as it is available. Please check their FAQ page for more information. If you don’t feel like your needs are being addressed or you still have questions, please contact our Education Officer.

Will this impact university fees deadlines?

When will the first student council meeting happen?

There is still one council meeting left this term and will take place on via Google Hangouts Meet. If you would like to attend, there will be more information available on social media. Further dates will be announced in the new term.
