Torcher
After the disappointment of abandoning the 2008 Torcher Parade after the terrible accident on Union Street, we would like extend a massive thank you to the Aberdeen public for coming out in their thousands to watch and support the event. We understand that many were eager to watch the parade and to donate to the Campaign's funds and were not able to do so past Queen's Cross and would ask that anyone still wishing to make a donation to this year's Campaign to make that donation in the following ways:
by cheque, payable to Aberdeen Students' Charities Campaign
by SMS TEXT - text 'ANGUS' to 84424 - (text costs £1.50 - £1 to Charities Campaign)
in person - we have collection buckets at the Hub, Elphinstone Road, Old Aberdeen.
We would also like to extend our best wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured on Saturday evening and hope that they will all make it back to good health very soon - our thoughts are with you and your families.
The Torcher Parade is the Students' Charities Campaign oldest event, and dating back to 1889 is in fact even older than the Campaign itself.
Since the early days of horse-drawn carts through the City Centre, the parade has grown to become the largest student torch-lit parade in Europe, attracting tens of thousands of spectators.

Torcher 2006
I would like to thank everyone who was involved in making Torcher 2006 the success that it was. We had 48 floats involved covering themes including Cowboys and Indians, Ghostbusters, Wallace and Gromit and Bird Flu to name but a few. This year we have raised 2.5 tonnes of coins - this will take several weeks to count, please keep checking back for a final amount.
