Introduction

Hey! I'm Hannah, your current Vice President for Activities! I graduated last year in German and Linguistics, spent two years as President of German Society, was LLMVC School Convener, a Student Ambassador - and lived and breathed activities at uni!

What are your three priorities for the year?

Alongside being your voice, your support and your advocate, my priorities are:

1. Partnership

Whether the partnership is between students, activities, University or externals, I want to develop our reach and relationships.

• Student Bar and Spaces

I’ve spent the year advocating for the SU bar, and have successfully run events in the SU such as Pub Quizzes and Pop-Up Pubs. If re-elected, I want to get a better Union space for late night events and partner with clubs and societies to deliver this through the Student Partnership Agreement.

• Sponsorship

Now that I’ve worked on the partnership with Prohibition, this year I want to help students get partnerships and recognition in Aberdeen and beyond. I also want to use this to find funding to develop Societies and Sports.

2. Development

• Develop and Recognition

As promised last year, I created the Club Mark System, a development framework for clubs and societies to grow. This year I want to trial it with clubs and societies and use the system to celebrate all the amazing things our students do.

• Accessibility

I want to develop more free sports alongside the new Activities Exec Committee, implement the sport wheelchairs which I secured funding for this year, and audit our current offering, to ensure everyone has opportunities at uni.

 • Green Spaces

Our students need more green spaces to support their wellbeing. I want to support the current offering in the Secret Garden and the Community Garden to make them more accessible and try to develop them for clubs and societies.

3. Support

• SGF

As promised, we have developed training on Blackboard for committees on SGF, which will be implemented in April.

I have been campaigning for more weekly payments, different payment deadlines and more communication with students. If I’m elected, I want to ensure this happens and bring students along in the process.

• Buddy System

Finish the Buddy System, which pairs students with clubs and societies, and trial this, giving students an easier pathway to join and participate. This system will provide support, wellbeing and community.

What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates? 

Having held the position for a year already, I have first-hand experience knowing what the role entails, and have relationships with the University, students and externals! I’m outgoing, confident and personable – so I’m comfortable pushing boundaries to get what students want.

What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it? 

There are more than one big issue facing students:

Safety, Cost-Of-Living, and Health and Wellbeing. Students are compromising their wellbeing and happiness by having to give up their activities or social lives due to the cost of living crisis and the risk of their own safety.

With the state of the world right now, activities provide an escape for students, we need to make these affordable, accessible, and safe. As your VP for Activities, I promise to work towards that.
