Secret Garden

The Secret Garden is a great space to learn about gardening and so it's taken care of by The Secret Garden Society.  We are an enthusiastic crew of nature lovers, who enjoy cultivating, growing and eating our own fruit and vegetables in a sustainable way.

We have gardening sessions every week, in which we take care of our garden, carrying out tasks like planting, harvesting, weeding, preparing the soil, making beds and learning about sustainable gardening methods. But we also do other activities from time to time, including projects such as Bugtropolis to make the garden more bug-friendly and promote pollination or The Forest Garden in which we grow perennials following the permaculture principles; visits to other community gardens, DIY workshops with recycled materials, mental health in nature workshops, collaborations with other societies in events such as "Fridays For Future", provide information about seasonal fruit and veggies, share vegan recipes and organise socials to get to know each other better! We also organise a whole range of activities for yearly events such as Climate Week North East and the Community Garden Festival. Our aim is to promote growing fruit and veggies in a sustainable way and share the benefits of having a green space on campus.

No previous experience is required!

We meet every Sunday from 11am to 1pm at the Secret Garden (next to the Butchart exam center on University Road), which is a space offered to students by the University of Aberdeen.

Check our Facebook and Instagram accounts to see what we do and receive the latest updates about our events. You can also join our Facebook group for member-exclusive events and enioy other privileges such as having priority when signing up for an event!
