Accident or Incident (including near misses)
In the event of any accident or incident (including near misses) whilst participating in any activity events, please complete the Activity Accident and/or Incident Reporting Form 2023-24
This can be for any occurrence, whether you are at a training session, social, or away on a trip or fixture. This form should be submitted for anyone at the event, whether AU student, Coach or visiting institution delegate.
This form should be completed with as much detail as is available at the time of writing within 48 hours of the incident. If any additional information is identified later, this form can be updated, or the information can be e-mailed to fixtures@abdn.ac.uk. This form should be completed even if you have completed an Aberdeen Sports Village or Third-Party Accident Form.
Serious accidents, at any AU Facility or ASV, should be reported immediately to University Security by telephoning 01224 273327. An incident is regarded as "serious" if the injured person has gone to hospital as a result of the accident or if emergency services have been called. This form should be completed even if you have reported the accident to University Security.
First Aid Training/Course
All Student Activity First Aiders must hold a valid certificate of competence before taking up their duties as First Aiders. The Aberdeen Sports Village (and Students Union) provide a RLSS UK Emergency First Aid at Work course. The EFAW qualification enables a first aider to give emergency first aid to anyone who is injured or becomes ill whilst engaged in Student Activity.
The course comprises practical work and theoretical classroom work, as well as a practical assessment on CPR and first aid. All assessment criteria in the units must be achieved. No prior first aid knowledge is required to attend the course.
The course covers and range of subjects, including :
- Understanding the role and responsibilities of a first aider
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally
- How to manage a casualty who is in shock
- How to assess an incident
- How to recognise and assist a casualty who is choking
- How to manage a casualty with a minor injury
- How to manage an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally
- How to manage a casualty with external bleeding
The Emergency First Aid at Work course is split into two 3.5hour sessions on subsequent evenings (approx. 5.30-9pm) and delegates must attend both sessions, to achieve the necessary learning objectives and qualify for certification. Everyone who completes the course will receive a copy of a first aid guide and a RLSS UK Emergency First aid at Work certificate.
Please Note: The course can be quite emotive in nature, so it is important to be aware that it could evoke some emotional feelings. Our instructors provide a safe learning environment and are trained to support you throughout the course
The cost of the course is £60. The course is non-refundable, but you can request to reschedule to an alternative date, but should we not be able to find a replacement delegate for the original date you will be charged full price for the original date, and the new date. It is not possible to transfer one session of the two-evening course to an alternate date.
The course is held at Aberdeen Aquatics Centre, Regent Walk, Aberdeen AB24 1SX. Dates and times will be confirmed upon delegate numbers (12) being reached but will be no later than one week before the date of the course.
