Aberdeen University Jazz offers members the chance to perform jazz, swing, funk and more alongside like-minded musicians in venues around the city - and further afield! AUJ is open to University Students, Staff, and anyone else from around the city who is keen to play jazz! 

We offer positions in 2 bands, the Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Band, both of these bands are open to rhythm section musicans (Piano, Guitar, Bass and Drums/Percussion), Trombones, Trumpets, Saxophones and Vocallists. Entry is by our open rehearsal process which happens the week after Freshers Week. Our Musical Director Pauline Black leads the bands through the year, including performances at the Blue Lamp and at the Aberdeen Jazz Festival. 

AUJ also offers members the chance to take part in workshops and performances with some of the best professional jazz musicians from around the world, past guests have included Andy Middleton, Pericopes, Helena Kay, Cedric Hanriot and Jam Experiment. 

Past repertoire includes, Parker with Strings; Music of Monk, Gillespie & Ella, The Great American Songbook, Music of Sinatra, Whiplash, and Duke Ellington's Sacred Concert.
