The University of Aberdeen Marischal Chamber Orchestra rehearses on Wednesdays 5pm-8:30pm in Butchart Recreation Centre on University Road. We play typical chamber orchestra repertoire, including Haydn, Debussy, and Poulenc. We also offer opportunities to play in a range of chamber groups, including (but not limited to) string quartets, wind quintets and brass quintets.
The Marischal Chamber Orchestra began in 2013 as an alongside project with the University of Aberdeen Symphony Orchestra. Since that time it has grown from strength to strength performing a range of chamber, choral, and symphonic works. MCO was founded by University of Aberdeen students and Christopher Gray, the orchestra's conductor. MCO performs two concerts within the academic year and holds an annual summer course which includes concerts both within and outwith Aberdeen.
MCO recently returned from their successful 2018 tour to the Czech Republic where they performed Beethoven's Egmont Overture, Sibelius' Symphony No. 3 as well as Piazzolla's Oblivion and Bruch's Romanze for Viola and Orchestra with viola soloist Nicola Boag.
