Welcome to Clay!
Whether you have been holding a gun since you were out the pram, or have never held a shotgun before, the Aberdeen University Clay Pigeon Club (AUCPC) is a friendly, welcoming, and sociable club.
We shoot throughout the academic year at the beautiful EJ Churchill’s Seals Cove, just outside of Aberdeen City. We run two shoots on a week, usually on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Alongside the shooting, we have a busy calendar of socials, competitions, dinners, and black-tie balls, so there is plenty going on both at the ground, and back in the city.
Most importantly, you absolutely do not need to know anything about shooting to join us!
Shooting
Our weekly shoots are the heart and soul of the club. We meet at the MacRobert car park to be placed into cars, before heading out to Seals Cove as a group, where we generally spend a few hours shooting clays, learning, improving and equally as importantly, socialising.
If you are completely new to shooting, do not worry about a thing! You do not need a shotgun, a licence, or any previous experience to shoot with the club. We arrange two introductory lessons with professional instructors, to get you safely and confidently started. Once you have completed your lessons, you will be allowed to shoot with our experienced, licence-holding members at any shoot.
Lessons at Seals Cove are at a discounted price of £35 each, so long as you have purchased your AUCPC membership before completing your first lesson.
For those of you who have shot before, the club is equally suited to developing your skills, getting more time on the gun, or simply having company to shoot drink pints with.
There are opportunities to get involved in competitions throughout the year, whether you are looking to compete to the highest level, or just fancy giving a competitive environment a go.
Competitions, Black Tie Balls & Everything In Between
There is considerably more to the AUCPC than shoots…
We take part in competitions and events at universities across the UK, including at St Andrews, Edinburgh, Durham, and even as far as Plymouth! Competing in numerous teams, we offer the chance to compete at any level, from complete beginner, right up to competition-winning teams.
We also make the most of the social side of shooting, with weekly shoots (often with elaborate themes), black-tie balls after every competition, and the occasional post-shoot booze-filled lunch.
Our calendar also includes our very own Northern Gathering Competition and Ball, usually mid-way through the second semester.
These events are a great way to meet people from both our university, but also from other universities wilder afield, and many of our members stay involved for the friends and experiences just as much as the shooting itself.
Whether you’re here to shoot, compete, socialise, or any mix of the three, there is always something to look forward to within the AUCPC.
Come and Give It a Go.
