What is Dress to Impress?
One of the most important aspects of our lives are meaningful connections and a sense of community. By bringing together like-minded individuals who are interested in either or all of the aspects of this society, it is a community that is created, allowing students to further cultivate their self-expression, identity and creativity. “Dress to Impress” highlights the importance of community and values at our University of Aberdeen.
Dress to Impress is a creative and sustainable community that brings together individuals passionate about fashion, design and channelling creativity into something meaningful. We focus on creating, upcycling and redesigning fabrics and pieces into new clothes, accessories and statements. Here, creativity is encouraged and celebrated, and the aim of this society is to provide a supportive space for emerging designers, photographers, and models to grow and learn.
What We Do
We design and create fashion pieces using both new and reused materials, transforming existing clothing pieces into unique, reimagined designs. Alongside fashion creation, we incorporate photography to build professional portfolios and offer practice opportunities for aspiring models.
Events
Our weekly events include Thrift Shop Tuesdays, where we will go thrifting for upcycling of clothes and fabrics, and Workshop Thursdays, dedicated to using and learning new practical skills; sewing with both hands and sewing machines, stitching, drawing, and wherever else your creativity goes. On Thursdays we will use the material we have gathered on Tuesdays. Our first meeting will take place on the 27th of January, and everyone with an interest in fashion, photography, or modelling is welcome and encouraged to join for some fabulous time.
