What is Aberdeen Student Show?

Student Show is a musical theatre society going into their 104th year. Each year they perform a Doric parody of a well known musical or movie at His Majesty’s Theatre.

Over the years, Student Show has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for local charities. The most recent production of "Mounthoolin Rouge" raised over £156,000 for 66 local charities!

Students from the University of Aberdeen, Robert Gordon University and North East Scotland College are welcome to audition and be involved in the society.

The show itself is one of a kind in the UK, and is the only amateur theatre show to consistently fill His Majesty's Theatre. Auditions are held in spring, followed by 4 weeks of intense rehearsals.

Take Part!

All students currently attending the University of Aberdeen, RGU or NESCol are eligible to perform in Student Show. You must have a valid student ID which should be brought along to auditions. Auditions for our 2024 production will take place in March next year. Keep checking our social media pages for audition details (these will be announced via social media in February).

What happens in the auditions?

The auditions are really nothing to worry about. We try and make them as fun as possible with lots of games and activities! You will be organised into groups which will rotate around our three audition sections: singing, dancing and acting. You will be required to sing a song, learn a short dance (in a group) and read for any parts you are interested in which will be provided prior to the audition.

What happens at rehearsal?

After auditions, our cast begin four weeks of rehearsal, for two weeks (Week One and Week Four) we rehearse from 6pm - 10pm, for two weeks (Week Two and Week Three) we rehearse from 10am-10pm. Although these rehearsals sound intense, Student Show prides itself as a 'student experience like no other', the whole experinece is extremely rewarding and all about making lifelong freindships with plenty chances to bond over the four weeks.
