Data Science Society

Who We Are The Data Science Society is a student-led professional body at the University of Aberdeen. We are a community of coders, researchers, and entrepreneurs—ranging from complete beginners to PhD candidates—dedicated to mastering the data-driven world.

What We Do (The Pillars)

  • Weekly Workshops: Hands-on sessions building real projects (Python, SQL, AI).

  • R&D & Open Source: Weekly deep-dives into State-of-the-Art (SOTA) research and contributing to global codebases.

  • Startup Incubator: Turning student ideas into products with enterprise-standard mentorship.

  • Professional Certification: Structured study paths for AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud credentials.

Who Can Join? Everyone. You do not need to be a Computer Science student. Whether you are in Medicine, Law, Business, or Arts, data science is relevant to you. We provide the "from-scratch" training you need to integrate data into your specific field.

Where & When We Meet

  • Weekly Technical Sessions: Every Wednesday at Meston common room.

  • Social & Networking: Last Wednesday of the month – "Data Drinks" mixer.

  • Digital Hub: Our primary community lives on Discord, where 50+ members share resources, job leads, and research 24/7.

Why Join Us? Beyond the £6.00/year membership, you gain a ready-made professional network, a portfolio of real-world projects, and the specific technical skills that top-tier employers are currently hiring for.
