Hold a referendum on disaffiliating from the NUS

    Current
I want the Students' Union to hold a binding referendum on whether we should disaffiliate from the National Union of Students.

Tell us more about why you want the Students' Union to do it

Students at several universities (e.g. Cambridge, LSE, Liverpool) have recently voted to disaffiliate from the NUS over their weak stance on Palestine and undemocratic structures. In 2025, senior NUS members threatened student representatives, pressuring them to retract their signatures from an open letter which expressed solidarity with Palestine. In my opinion this constitutes blackmail. NUS have attempted to walk this and other actions back, but I feel it is too little, too late. AUSA spends about £25,000 per year on its NUS affiliation, and I can't see what we have to show for it. Students at Aberdeen should have the choice on whether they want their union’s money spent on this, or whether it would be better spent on our students and our societies.
