Hostile Environments and Tropical (HEAT) Medicine

Inspired by the father of tropical medicine, Sir Patrick Manson, who graduated from Aberdeen University 160 years ago this year (2025) with a medicine degree, we are hosting a conference on the themes of tropical medicine and medicine in hostile environments.

We aim to:

  1. Bring together all types of students and professionals particularly within the medical field to provide an insight into medicine which is not routinely covered in the medical curriculum
  2. Allow students to gain valuable experiences to enhance their CV e.g. there will be a poster competition, workshops and educational talks
  3. Network the student community and bring together lots of different societies by inviting them to our events to run stalls/workshops etc.
  4. Make these fields of medicine accessible by providing cheap, affordable prices on tickets, as conferences in particular are often very expensive and inaccessible to students
  5. Raise money for charity (profit of the conference tickets will be donated) and spread awareness of charities by allowing them to also run stalls/ feature in talks
