How You Can Support

How You Can Support the Strike

Like the Aberdeen Students Support the Strike Facebook page to keep up to date with information and events.

The most basic thing you can do if you support your lectures and their right to strike is to not cross the picket line at your university.

Strikes will be taking place on 20-21st February, 24th-26th February, 2nd-5th March, and 9th-13th March

It's really important to talk to your friends, other students and get them to support the strike too. Explain to them the reasons behind the action in this case and, if needed, the principles of a strike itself.

Post in your course Facebook groups, WhatsApp chats, tell your friends not to go to classes. Request to join the Students Support the Strike Aberdeen facebook group to get involved with organising support!

You can support strikes on the day in person too. Whether you drop by to bring hot drinks and biscuits or stay longer and encourage fellow students to not cross the picket line, your solidarity will be greatly appreciated.

You can also join the teach-outs. They take place after the picket lines usually from 11.30 to 12.30. They are free educational workshops and discussions organised outside of campus during the strike. Usually in Dunbar Hall. There is still a few spots left if you or your society want to deliver a presentation, activity or workshops, just get in touch with ausacommunities@abdn.ac.uk.

· In general, on strike days, classes/talks etc. run by striking lecturers won't go ahead. If you don't know if your lecturer(s) will be striking, email them and ask them - and offer them your support.

If you are a PG student, you can (and should!) join UCU. You can join as a student member if you aren't employed by the University, and as a regular member if you do teach (both are free for PGs).

You can write to the Principal .
