PGR CommuniTea: Insights from a viva survivor (barely!)

Crombie Hall, room A03

Thursday 25 September 2025 at 2pm - 3:30pm

Every PhD brings its own challenges, and hearing about others’ experiences can be helpful in feeling less isolated. It can also be a chance to pick up some tips that can help you in successfully completing your own doctoral journey.

Dr Vani Naik endured an unnecessarily difficult PhD journey but managed to stay the course. Her PhD journey culminated in a challenging viva. While she passed with corrections, the experience was so harrowing that she nearly walked away from the doctorate entirely.

Come along to this CommuniTea event to hear about the highs and lows of her PhD journey, as well as what helped her persevere through to the successful submission of the corrected thesis. She will share mistakes she made along the way, as well as lessons she has since learnt, now that she can reflect on the experience.

Expect an honest account, spoken with authenticity, and the Q&A section will take an AMA (Ask Me Anything) approach. This will be a valuable and engaging session for PGRs and Supervisors alike.
