Monday 29 September 2025 at 5pm - 7pm

Join the History Society for a lecture on fifteenth-century Scotland!

📅 Date: 29th September, 2025
🕒 Time: 17:00-19:00
📍 Location: NK11 (New King's)

Join the History Society for our upcoming lecture, ‘All thingis covntit’: Government and Accounting in Fifteenth-Century Burghs, presented by Professor Jackson Armstrong.

This talk examines how governments and officials managed money and power in late medieval Scotland, with a particular focus on evidence from towns. It explores how and why accounts were written down and the ways in which officials’ accounts were scrutinised. It argues that authority was exercised and justified through a framework of debt and credit, which may seem fitting in an urban context but is also revealing about late medieval political culture more generally.

This event is free and open to both members and non-members – no tickets required! After the lecture there will be an informal chat session where you’ll have the chance to ask questions and continue the discussion.

We look forward to seeing you there!
