A Cappella Society

Aberdeen University’s A Cappella Society is home to all of the campus’ A Cappella group. Aberpella is an award-winning mixed gender group, and the Killer Quines is a select all-female ensemble. Both groups fully write and choreograph every arrangement, performing and competing in local and national competition. If you don’t feel like auditioning and competing, their group Caletoneia is home for everyone who just wants to perform!

Creative Writing Society

The Aberdeen University Creative Writing Society was founded during the 1980s to offer students a platform to share, develop, read, and listen to creative pieces of writing. More than 30 years later, they’re still going strong! They meet every Thursday to offer members feedback on their writing. You can also check out their termly publication of members’ writing, The Creative Writing Society Compendium, which is available for free on their website.

English Literature Society

The English Literature Society aims to showcase as much of the literary talent in Aberdeen as possible through their monthly performance nights at The Blue Lamp! They’re enthusiastic about creating a platform for creative writers and performers who want to share their work with a lovely and encouraging audience.

Show Choir

Aberdeen University Show Choir is a fully student-run performance group that embraces the individual talents that every person has to offer. They rehearse once a week on campus to prepare for their annual Spring Concert, where they showcase everything they’ve been working on throughout the year. The Show Choir arrange songs around 3-part harmonies, and they perform up-beat pop songs, musical numbers, ballads, and everything in between!

Trad and Folk Society

The Folk and Trad Society is a ‘craicing’ group of friendly musicians. They don’t hold auditions and any level of musician is welcome. If you do have some musical experience and would like something more committed, you can join their subgroup, the Elphinstone Fiddlers, an ensemble of players who play varied events throughout the year including ceilidhs, sessions and more. They play folk and trad tunes from all over the world, including compositions from their own members, all the while having a great time at regular socials and events!
