Freshers Event Volunteers

We have two kinds of volunteering opportunities for Freshers' 2023! Please read the job descriptions below for more information:

Student-facing Events Volunteer (event promotion, student engagement)

Are you outgoing and friendly, love to be involved with student life, and work great within a team? This is the role for you! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help with all daytime and evening events during Freshers’. From handing out freebies at the Students' Union Freshers’ stall to engaging with students at events, you will be there to help!

Some of your responsibilities include:

  • Assisting the Students’ Union and the student activities with the smooth running of the Freshers' Fayres
  • Talking to new students and making them feel welcome
  • Promoting other Students’ Union events (& Welcome Week events inc Aura)
  • Helping give directions across campus and to the different events we are hosting
  • Helping SU staff crowd and line control when events get busy
  • Helping to capture content from events for the SU social media.

 

Skills and Qualities that we are looking for:

  • Experience in organising events
  • Knowledge of campus desirable
  • Experience of working with a team effectively
  • Clear communication skills

 

There will be a training day for all volunteers on 7th September on the Old Aberdeen campus to prepare you for the role.

6) Having good memories: You will also be able to join in on events if there is space available and you are not required during the running of the event. We will also organize a volunteer ‘Thank You’ event after the busy week

 

 

 

Behind the Scenes Events Volunteer (tech support, event set-up)

Do have an interest in organising and running events, ensuring everything runs smoothly in the background? This is the role for you. The Students' Union are looking for volunteers to help in the running of various events during Freshers’ 2023. From helping set up before and take down after events, technological support and other organising, you’ll be there to help us ensure that all events run smoothly from start to finish.

 

Some of your responsibilities include:

  • Responding to last minute changes and helping out others where needed
  • Helping to set up, dismantle and clean up from all of our events
  • Helping us organise equipment and freebies during events
  • Supporting with technology at events, where needed
  • Helping capture content for the SU social media (or photos from the events for use later)

 

Skills and Qualities include:

  • Adaptability

1)Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills: As a volunteer in this role, you will have the chance to utilize and enhance your, attention to detail, ability to adapt quickly, efficient problem-solving and organisational skills.

2)Technical Support and Event Management Experience: You will provide technical support during events, ensuring that equipment and systems run smoothly. This involvement gives you practical exposure to event logistics and technical troubleshooting, which can be valuable in future professional endeavours. These skills and experience can enhance your CV and boost your employability!

3)Sense of Achievement: Volunteering in this position allows you to make a positive impact behind the scenes, creating a real impact and promoting a sense of achievement.

4)Collaboration and Communication: You will work closely with other volunteers, event organisers, and staff to coordinate tasks, allocate resources, and ensure a cohesive team effort. Volunteering in this role offers opportunities to enhance your communication skills and develop positive working relationships with others.
