This Saturday, November 3rd, we will be helping the Aberdeen City Council Rangers with squirrel woodland management - most of you will already be familiar with the issues facing our native red squirrel populations in Britain, and this is a brilliant oppurtunity to get involved!
Red squirrels have once again been seen in the woods of Hazelhead! This is partly due to removal of grey squirrels but also encouraging the regeneration of Scots pines that are the squirrel's favourite food. We will be getting rid of spruce saplings in order to increase the chance of seeing red squirrels in this lovely part of the city. Gloves, tools and hot drinks will be provided but please dress warmly, wear sturdy footwear and bring a packed lunch.
We will be catching the First Group bus number 11 from Union Street (the stop just before Market Street!). We will be meeting up there at 9.20am. The cost is just your bus fare and the current student day ticket is £3.20 (but don't forget to bring your student ID card along!). The days work will be done by 3pm at which point we'll catch the bus back to the city centre, however, if you need to leave early you may do so.
Hope to see you there!
