Marischal Conductors' Orchestra Society

We are a student-run chamber orchestra open to student conductors who wish to gain experience conducting an ensemble and players both within and out with the University community to comprise the orchestra.

MCO provide opportunities to budding conductors, that would otherwise be unavailable, to develop and practice their skills in a fun, practical and supportive environment with the orchestra while also giving players the opportunity to play as part of an ensemble and experience different types of and approaches to conducting and be introduced to repertoire they may have not had the opportunity to play.

Although our name has been repurposed, we are a new society. Rehearsal dates and times are still to be confirmed. However, orchestral rehearsals will initially be once a month, getting more frequent in the second semester running up to our end of year concert. Conductor score preparation sessions will also be held on a monthly basis.

If you would like to practice or develop your conducting skills with an orchestra or play in an orchestral ensemble while experiencing different kinds of conducting, then this society is the one for you!

Some of the repertoire the orchestra will play, as well as the turnaround time between getting the music and the rehearsal of it, requires a minimum standard of Grade 7 ABRSM or equivalent on your chosen instrument. However, if you have relevant ensemble or performance playing experience, please apply to join and detail your experience on the form. Auditions may be requested on a case-by-case basis to ensure both players and conductors get the most out of each rehearsal.
