It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.
- Chinese proverb

  • We hold weekly meetings every Tuesday, 6pm in MT013 (Meston Building) (unless announced otherwise).

Welcome to the Amnesty International Society! We are a campaigning group dedicated to defending human rights and shining a light on oppression and abuse around the world.

Amnesty International was founded in 1961 out of a London barrister’s office. It has now grown to a worldwide organisation spanning 150 countries and more than three million members. The founding principles remain the same, though: we are independent of any government, political party, economic interest or religion, and we always will be.

Here at the University of Aberdeen we focus on awareness and activism. By arranging talks, debates and film showings we raise awareness of the many human rights abuses that take place every day; by holding demonstrations, raising funds and writing letters on behalf of the imprisoned and voiceless we take action to make a change.
