Welcome To Aberdeen University Sailing Club

About Us

AUSC is an active club that caters for all abilities, from complete beginners to experienced racers. We have a range of sessions, including Open Sailing sessions for those wishing to learn and improve, and team training sessions to prepare for competitions throughout the year. As well as dinghy sailing and racing, we also delve into yachting, competing in various competitions and even holding yachting cruises! See our Events schedule below for more information.

Most of our sessions are run at Forfar Loch and transport is available from ASV, Hillhead and RGU leaving at 9am. Our Team Racing Training Sessions run most Sundays from 10:00 - 15:30. These sessions focus on introducing you to the world of University Team Racing, and creating a versatile, well-rounded team to send off to various competitions to race for the University of Aberdeen. If you are interested in teams, we are holding Team Trials on the 27th September. Depending on interest, we can have more than one team!

Open Sailing sessions run from 10:00 - 15:00 every other Sunday. In these sessions, you have the opportunity to learn to sail, improve your existing skills, or just free sail - whatever floats your boat! We have a range of dinghies available, including Fireflies and a Bahia.

Every Wednesday, we hold a social. These include Pub Crawls, themed social nights on the town and team bonding socials, such as a Casual lunch! Check out our Facebook events section for more information on upcoming events!

The Green Blue Challenge

As a club, we look to be as sustainable as possible in our training sessions as we enjoy getting out on the water and experiencing the beautiful environment around us. We therefore play an important role in helping to protect our marine and inland waters to safeguard the wildlife and habitats with which we share our boating environment. The RYA Green Blue Annual University Challenge helps us do this by providing ways to improve not only our own sailing practices but also those of Forfar Sailing Club, where we regularly train!

Here are some top tips for sustainble boating:

- wash your boat before and after towing to remove any invasive animals & plants (and reduce the spread of them to other venues)

- keep quiet, predictable and slow around marine wildlife and move away after 15 minutes to limit disturbances

- avoid single use plastics! bring reusable drink and food containers when you can!

- use eco-friendly cleaning products when cleaning your craft to reduce pollutants entering the water.
