Last week was full of meetings and still a few inductions.
On Tuesday, we met with some of the Aber Green (https://www.ausa.org.uk/getinvolved/abergreen/) team to discuss how we can collaborate in the future. In the pipeline, I am trying to develop a sustainable events training session for societies and clubs.
Organising events can be hard work and thinking how to make it sustainable can take time especially at first. If you have any tips or experience, let me know! hopefully, these training sessions will be ready by September for societies training.
On Wednesday, I was in Edinburgh with Alexander Acheampong and @Cecilia Wallback for the Big Uni Forum organised by NUS Scotland (https://twitter.com/NUSScotland) and see the lovely picture below.
Scottish sabbatical officers organising and working collectively on a few issues such as sustainability, mental health and student financial support. We focusses on NUS Priority Campaign on HOUSING :bad laundry companies, too expensive and not adequate student accommodation, Rent Guarantor Scheme were discussed and we will create some action groups in the future so we continue joining forces.
If you are interested or want to know more, please let me know. For these campaigns to work, we all need to work together. Have any bad experiences in student halls, with your landlord, can't find a flat because you do not know anyone in the UK. All of these are important to know so we can show something needs to be changed! Let me know our experiences on student housing whether private or in halls, it will help with the campaign in the long-run.
We also enjoyed a little jog in Edinburgh rain trying not to miss our train! Happy to say we were soaked but not late!
On Thursday, I met with UCU members with Dariya Koleva to discuss what can they provide to PG Students (https://www.ucu.org.uk/…/5143/Can-students-or-postgraduates…). Did you know as a PG Students, you can a free membership. You will have different services and support if you are employed PostGraduate. But worth checking out, especially if you have any queries regarding your employment and working condition.
We also met with the Security team with Isla Scott to discuss bike safety, events security and other services available to students.
On Friday, we had a productive meeting with the Student Experience team to discuss the Student Partnership Agreement. What is it? Basically an agreement of partnership between AUSA and the University on several key issues. We are better and stronger working together but we need clear objectives to focus on. If you want to see anything worked on this year, what would it be?
Between meetings, phone calls and inductions, I have worked towards signing up to the Green Impact Award, met with Shared Planet Society to see how we can support and expand their Foodsharing scheme, organised mooncups to be delivered and distributed in AUSA and Suttie Center, updated our poster board in Suttie Center, amongst other things!
But again, have any questions or suggestions? Drop me a message, an email or come directly in the AUSA Office for a chat. I will have open sessions organised on Foresterhill, Hillhead and Kings Campus soon to make it easier to reach me in person! Keep you eyes peeled!
That's it for me! And here goes another week
