1. That AUSA as the union representing students should declare Climate Emergency.
-Currently working with different student groups (Aberdeen Student Climate Network and Environment and Ethics Commitee) to gather opinions on what to include in the declaration of Climate Emergency (Carbon neutrality, full divestment committments etc).
-Draft of the declaration is being finalised. Expected to hit social media before the Winter Break.
2. That AUSA should lobby the university to do the same as an educational and scientific research institution and recognise the gravity of the issue of the climate crisis.
-Working with student groups and AURORA Student Council. AURORA Student Council is sending a letter to all partner universities to declare a state of climate emergency
-Working with the University by putting Sustainability as one of the priority area in the Student Partnership Agreement.
-Set up a meeting with the Principal mid-January to present AUSA declaration and ask them to sign the declaration with AUSA or write a separate declaration
3. That AUSA should take action that reflects their declaration of climate emergency by form a climate crisis policy and strategy on how to follow it to do their part in fighting the greatest threat that mankind faces today. To do so, AUSA should form a strategy group, stronger supporting green initiatives on campus and lobby the university to go fossil free.
-Divestment group still active, organised National Day of Divestment (Nov 2019)
-Creation of a Climate Crisis Working Group will be discussed alongside the meeting in mid-January.
-Investment Committee update (Committee within the University structure, reviewing investment policies etc): Refusal to fully divestment, however discussion on partial divestment ongoing with renewal of a Sustainable Investment Policy.
