Quick questions

If I had to describe myself in 3 words I would use:

Empathetic, committed and (sometimes) adventurous.

Best piece of advice I’ve ever received is:

Don't waste your time on something you don't like doing. Find what makes you happy and go from there.

If I had one superpower, it would be:

Being able to fill up anything (my bank account or my fridge!)

Favourite thing to do in my spare time is:

I like to garden and plant things, but also exploring new places in cities or nature.

This year I want to achieve:

Sustainability! Not just in words, but actions.

EAUC Conference Report 26/11

On the 26th of November, I attended the EAUC (Environmental Association of Universities and Colleges) Scotland Conference in Glasgow. I was accompanied by three students who participated in an AberGreen competition and won tickets to the conference.

The conference was divided into workshops on several (very interested topics). I choose to attend one on Sustainable Food and Curriculum for the Future.

The Sustainable Food session dealt with Meat-Free Mondays campaigns and  other related initiatives in Oxford and UCL; academic research on the environmental impact of meat. It gave me a pretty good direction to work on the Meat-Free Mondays motion which passed at the last Student Council in December. Amongst other things, I have been mandated to organise a campaign to raise awaress of the environmental impact of meat and to lobby the university to ban the selling of meat on Mondays.

The Curriculum for the Future dealt with examples of universities which have embedded sustainability to their curriculum, issues they have encountered and solutions they have found. The Environment and Ethics Committee is looking at ways to promote sustainability in courses at the University, how the Careers Service can promote opportunities in sustainable-related jobs.

We also heard several panelist discuss on the topic of air business travel. It was interesting to see how controversial this topic is.

Overall, the conference was very informative and I've left with a lot of ideas we could implement on our campuses.

This is a very condensed version of the talks/topics which were addressed at the conference, if you have any questions let me know. If you are interested in EAUC, the University is a member for the network so you can get a free membership and access a lot of ressources such as attending webinars, guides and discounts on events.
