Together, we rise - empowering every student’s learning experience at University of Aberdeen!
Pronouns: He/Him
Introduction
Hello, I am Md Mostafijur Rahman, an International Postgraduate student currently pursuing my LLM at the University of Aberdeen (UoA). As an international student, I have experienced both Scottish and international cultures, which gives me a unique perspective. I understand the challenges that new international students face when arriving at UoA, and I am committed to addressing these issues. My goal is to foster stronger connections between domestic and international students, creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. I aim to bring positive change to UoA by listening to students' needs and adapting policies that reflect those requirements. Whatever changes I implement, I will ensure they are student-friendly, practical, and ultimately improve the overall student experience.
What are your three priorities for the year?
- As the Vice President of Education, my first priority will be to encourage students to actively participate in international competitions and conferences. This will help represent our university on a global level and foster a sense of pride and achievement within the student community.
- I will focus on organizing additional extracurricular activities and leadership development programs for all students, ensuring high participation. These initiatives will provide valuable opportunities for students to enhance their CVs, develop leadership skills, and work towards their career goals, while empowering them to take on leadership roles and play an active part in shaping the future of UoA.
- I will focus on improving the integration of domestic and international students by fostering a more inclusive environment through social and academic events. Additionally, I will work to enhance transparency and communication between students and university administration, ensuring that student concerns and feedback are heard and addressed in a timely manner, while providing the support needed for all students to succeed.
What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?
During my undergraduate studies, I had the privilege of serving for four years as a member of the governing body of a leadership development organization. This experience has equipped me with unique skills in leadership, teamwork, and event organization. I’ve learned how to foster a supportive and collaborative environment, and I am passionate about bringing these skills to UoA. My goal is to ensure that every student feels empowered and has the opportunity to develop their full potential, both academically and personally.
What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?
The biggest problem students are facing right now is the lack of structured opportunities to showcase their potential, especially for those in specialized fields like business, law, robotics, and medicine. Many students struggle to access the academic resources they need to succeed and feel disconnected from the support that could help them grow. Moreover, financial barriers often prevent students from representing their ideas and projects on global platforms, limiting their ability to make an impact. To tackle this, I plan to create dedicated communities for different fields of study, allowing students to collaborate, share ideas, and support each other. These communities will also help students gain access to the resources they need to thrive and present their work to the world. Additionally, I will advocate for more funding opportunities to ensure that students can represent their projects internationally, helping to elevate the university's reputation and empowering students to bring their ideas to life.
