I'm here to amplify your voices. There is power in community.

Introduction

I am a final year English literature and creative writing student. In my free time I volunteer at Bookends and Oxfam bookshop. At the end of my first year, I was diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia hence I understand how important the student union is and the support that the university can offer students. Environmental issues are incredibly important to me and since living in Aberdeen I have also attended environmental and climate protests.

What are your three priorities for the year?

1.Improve the shop section in the student union. Give more dedicated time to these, to increase donations, support and awareness of these places.

Bring these initiatives to Hillhead and Fosterhill too so that these locations have community fridges too.

2. To organise free classes for students to learn upcycling/remaking methods which are environmentally conscious.

These informal events could include workshops in mending, knitting, cooking and ways to reuse old plastics. This would be the foundation; the goal will be to build on these and include workshops that you want to see.

3.  Create clear links to charities in Aberdeen for students to volunteer with that have a positive impact on the environment.

Work with charities so students can volunteer their time with charities that are working to improve our regional area and the world.

The aim is such charities as Oxfam, Friends of St Fitticks Park, and so on.

What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?

Throughout my university experience I have held committee positions within societies. The roles I have held include secretary and then president for the past two years for Wizarding World of Aberdeen, and social secretary for Ice-Skating. Being part of different committees and contrasting roles has empowered me to take on leadership roles while also developing great organisational and planning skills which would be vital in this role. I am also a Holocaust Educational Trust Ambassador this has given me opportunities in public speaking hence I am confident to campaign and advocate for the student body. Overall, I want to be a voice for you, I look forward to running campaigns that you want to see happening at our university.

What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?

I believe that the biggest issue facing students is the current cost of living crisis. This is creating lonely students, there is less money/no money for things such as going out to join society and university events. The greatest expenditure for students is on accommodation. Leaving students without enough money for food, clothes and course books.  Thus, illustrating why, the student union recycling shop departments for clothes and books are so important. These have a great opportunity to be expanded and enhanced to everyone's benefit.
