Empowering Diversity, Enriching Experiences. Your Voice, Your Choice. Vote Khamisa for Vice President for activities!

Introduction

I'm Khamisa, a final-year Business Management student, and I'm excited to run for Vice President for Activities. With my passion for sports, student groups and Societies, I'm determined to create engaging experiences and foster inclusivity across campus in an excellent way. Let's make a difference together!

What are your three priorities for the year?

1.           Innovative activities to boost student wellbeing.

To begin, I hope to promote University of Aberdeen sports globally by creating contacts with universities throughout the United Kingdom.  In addition, I am focused on innovating new approaches to improve student well-being and immediately resolve welfare problems. A healthy state of mind is essential for a successful academic journey, and I am committed to creating an environment in which students can thrive both intellectually and psychologically with creative activities.

2.           Full access to the university facilities.

Having witnessed students' frustrations with limited spaces for their activities every week, I recognize the pressing need for change. Sports and student groups deserve full access to university facilities, a fundamental right. I'm committed to bridging this gap and ensuring equality and equitable access for all.

3.           Embrace Your Roots: A Cultural Extravaganza for Everyone.

I want to build a forum where Aberdeen University students may proudly express their culture and language. We will celebrate our uniqueness by performing dynamic dance and musical performances, creating unity, and understanding. Your vote for me ensures that your voice is heard, and your heritage is acknowledged on campus. Let us make Aberdeen a place where all cultures thrive!

What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?

With a track record as a sports prefect for over 3 years, top swimmer, and standout athlete, along with my roles as a student ambassador and representative at the University of Aberdeen Study Centre, I bring a unique blend of leadership and athletic prowess. My warm, approachable energy, friendly demeanour, and extroverted nature make me easily accessible, enhancing my ability to connect with students and effectively represent their interests.

What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?

The cost-of-living crisis and recent changes in UK student visas present significant challenges for students. To address this, I propose practical solutions: increasing financial aid and scholarships, partnering with local businesses for student discounts, advocating for student-friendly visa policies, and organizing workshops on budgeting and part-time job opportunities. These initiatives aim to ease financial burdens and empower students to navigate these challenges effectively.
