Empowering Every Student, Every Voice and Enriching Communities to Build a Brighter Future, Together.

Introduction

My name is Ankita Sinha, and I am excited to announce my candidacy for Student President in the upcoming election. As someone who is deeply passionate about fostering collaboration, inclusivity, driving positive change and advocating for student rights, I am committed to representing the interests and concerns of our diverse student body.

What are your three priorities for the year?

1. Elevating Student Voices: I will prioritize amplifying the voices of students across all disciplines, ensuring that every student's perspective is heard and valued in decision-making processes. I am dedicated to enhancing support services for students, including mental health resources, career development opportunities, and access to affordable housing. I will advocate for initiatives that promote student well-being and success. By enhancing transparency and accessibility, we can empower students to make the most of their university experience and thrive both academically and personally.

2. Promoting Diversity and Inclusion:  Would advocate for policies and programs that celebrate diversity, support underrepresented groups, and create opportunities for dialogue and understanding.

3. Enhancing Career Opportunities: I recognize the unique challenges faced by international and home students, particularly in terms of career support and integration. I will work to ensure that the university provides adequate opportunities and support for international students, including tailored career services and resources to help them navigate the job market. By forging partnerships with employers and organizations, we can create pathways for students to gain valuable work experience and build networks in their chosen fields. Drawing on my background in Engineering, Design Research, and Business, I will prioritize initiatives that foster collaboration and cross-disciplinary learning among students. By breaking down silos and promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and bridging disciplinary divides, we can create a more inclusive and vibrant academic community.

What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?

With my experience as Business School Convener, senate member and Vice President for oGX function in AIESEC, I bring a wealth of leadership experience and a deep understanding of the needs and concerns of students within our student community. My prior experiences has equipped me with the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and lead with empathy and compassion. I am passionate about leveraging my interdisciplinary perspective to drive positive change and create a more inclusive and equitable campus community for all.

My unwavering commitment to advocating for student rights and spearheading impactful initiatives, I am confident in my ability to effectively represent and serve our vibrant student community as President.

What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?

One of the biggest issues facing students is the need for enhanced support and resources, particularly in areas such as mental health, career development, and affordable housing. As President, I will prioritize addressing these issues by advocating for increased funding and expanding access to vital support services that benefit all students. In this regard, I believe that one of the key challenges facing our student community is the lack of awareness about the wide range of support services and exciting opportunities available at Aberdeen University. As Student President, I will also prioritize improving information flow and communication channels to ensure that every student is aware of the resources, support networks, and exciting events available to them on campus.
