Together we can!

Introduction

My name is Khalifa Yahaya Muhammad,

I am a post-graduate student pursuing an LLM in Energy & Environmental law.

I got involved in the activities of AUSA since I joined UOA last year leading to my contest and winning elections as the School of law convener.

I am very passionate about serving and championing the cause of students and being the voice of the voiceless. This is one of the major reasons I became a lawyer and in the last 5 years, I have actively influenced social change in my home country.

What are your three priorities for the year?

Well-being of the students is my top priority.

In today's world, we're grappling with numerous challenges, from global crises to the soaring cost of living. These issues take a toll on our mental health, affecting students profoundly. That's why I'm committed to creating safe havens where we can openly discuss our worries and fears without judgment. Together, let's carve out spaces where every voice is heard, every concern is acknowledged, and every student feels supported.

Enhancing participation and enthusiasm in AUSA activities is paramount. While the current administration has made strides in fostering inclusivity, many students still exhibit low engagement levels. Upon assuming office, my team and I will meticulously plan diverse events and programs aimed at fostering unity among students. My vision is for AUSA to become a shared endeavor, where every student takes ownership and pride in its initiatives. Together, let's cultivate an AUSA where every student feels a sense of belonging and pride.

Innovations and collaborations : innovative ideas and solutions especially about life of students post UOA will be prioritized. We will, through the university aim to collaborate with different organizations who will provide an Avenue where students are not in doubts as to the next steps in their journeys

What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?

My discipline as a barrister and solicitor with some experience in both public and private sectors has given me the ability to gain so much experience and ability to take on challenges.

I have good inter personal skills and I am one who’s easily accessible. This and more when brought to Ausa will transform it significantly

What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?

The exorbitant cost of living remains a pressing concern among students, significantly impacting their overall well-being.

Once elected, our priority will be to host various events aimed at comprehensively understanding the extent of students' struggles with the high cost of living. Furthermore, we are committed to collaborating closely with the university to implement interventions that alleviate the financial burdens students face. Together, we'll strive to ensure that every student can thrive academically and personally without being weighed down by financial constraints.
