Your Academic Ally, Navigating Education Together
Pronouns: She/Her
Introduction
I believe learning should never stop. Which has landed me in the University of Aberdeen to learn more everyday whether it is in the lectures and seminars or in the library or attending workshops or talking to people from different strata of life and society or indulging in a new sport or an art, because education is more than what we learn the classrooms.
What are your three priorities for the year?
1. Education is not confined and everyone is represented
I aim to make it a point that no matter what course and subject area someone is pursuing there are ways other than just lectures and seminars to educate themselves. It could be even as simple as a game of flash cards or a mock enactment of business proposal to dragon's den. Also, visits to places of work where the knowledge and education students are trying to gain is the everyday practicality. While class representatives selections is different in each department I believe there needs to be a way to ensure representation of every community.
2. Learning feedback and assistance
We are always in the process of learning as students but sometimes it can take a toll on you if you are not familiar with the methodology of teaching in a course or the framework of assessment in that course. It would is rather beneficial if students could give their feedback on what is working and what is not working for them in a course halfway through the course and can be given assistance. Mock assessment and simulation structure and proof-reading assistance is something you will benefit from as students at the university.
3. Attract more grants and fundings
With the impeccable talent and immensely knowledgeable people at the university it is a shame that we don't have enough grants and findings from government and private stakeholders, which is an obstacle in the path of the university and it's members to shining bright in their fields. With such a prestigious history and the zeal to make a difference we can achieve the goal of attracting more grants and fundings especially from private stakeholders.
What unique skill/knowledge can you bring to the role to stand out from the other candidates?
I believe there is nothing I can't do if I set my mind to it which has led to me being a jack of all trades which better than a master of one, I am a lawyer, archer, poet, cook, artist, AI enthusiast, content creator, stylist, skincare geek but most importantly a student. All these various shoes that I can put on makes me a person who can think outside the box and create opportunities out of nothing.
What do you think is the biggest issue that students are facing at the moment and how do you plan to tackle it?
We as students are aware of what the examiner wants but sometimes fail to deliver on it explicitly or make minor mistakes which could have been avoided had there been another pair of eyes watching it or a mock assessment before the real one. That is to say this issue can be solved with a feedback system on a mock assessment and a proofreading assistance.
