Bike Mechanic Training for Active Travel Champs

Following our first sell out event in the first semester, AberGreen welcomes you to another intensive bike mechanic training at the Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative!
Would you like to be able to fix up your own bike and help others with theirs?!
Then you’ve come to the right place! In order to become an AberGreen Active Travel Champion, you’ll have the opportunity to complete this training free of charge and join a team of vibrant volunteers who help drive sustainability on campus!
Upon completing this training, as an Active Travel Champion, you will be expected to deliver 1 bike mechanic event at a suitable time for you during term time, so you can pass on any knowledge you gained from training. The team will provide support with this, and you will never be expected to deliver a training on your own! By signing up to this event, you agree to delivering one of these session which we will fully support you with.
At the end of the training you will receive a certificate and an AberGreen Goodie Bag, which entails a mini bike repair kit and a large VegBag voucher!
By the end of the training you will have a thorough theoretical and practical understanding of the following:
• Puncture repair: wheel removal, locating punctures, fixing punctures, wheel refitting.
• Wheel truing – essential for better braking.
• Brake adjustment for powerful, silent stopping.
• Adjusting hub bearings for maximum life and smooth running.
• Gear adjustment: including fitting new cables and fine tuning front and rear mechanisms.
• Bottom bracket and headset adjustment.
• Recommendations for routine bicycle servicing
Lunch will be provided for you on the day!
